Check Out Our List Of The Best Health Tips To Avoid The Dengue During The Rainy Season
Dengue is one of the viral infections caused by female mosquito bites and irregular rains, and the increased humidity during the monsoons leads to an increase in seasickness. Dengue fever can be life-threatening in severe cases (Dengue shock syndrome, dengue hemorrhagic fever) and occurs every year in India, Southeast Asia, South China, Taiwan, and tropical and subtropical regions. Mexico and Central America, where about 500,000 people contract the disease each year, have a mortality rate of 2.5%.
When a mosquito infects a person, the virus circulates in the blood for 2-7 days, which is how long it takes for fever. If a person has been infected with dengue fever, the disease can be transmitted when the first symptoms appear, which is usually 4-5 days after being bitten, but people who recover from dengue fever are permanently immune to the disease.
Speaking to HT Lifestyle, Dr. Amrita Singh, Head of Laboratory Services, Neuberg Diagnostics, New Delhi, said, -In cases of mild dengue fever, teenagers and children will not experience any symptoms after being bitten by a mosquito. In adults, symptoms usually start 4-5 days after being bitten by a mosquito. The first symptoms of dengue are usually a fever above 104 F, followed by a headache.
He said: -Sudden bouts of high fever, severe headache, muscle aches (often called bone fever), vomiting, loss of appetite, and fatigue are common symptoms of sea fever. Using insect repellent is one of the best ways to prevent seasickness. Dr. Amrita Singh gives the following tips to prevent sea fever during monsoon:
1. Using mosquito repellent - Using mosquito repellent is one of the most effective ways to prevent dengue fever. However, some people may react badly to the chemicals in the cream, so do a patch test first.
2. Wear protective clothing - During monsoons, it is recommended to sleep in air-conditioned rooms with mosquito nets and windows. Choose clothes with long sleeves and pants that cover as much skin as possible. The less skin you have, the less likely you are to get bitten. It is also recommended to wear light-colored clothing as this usually repels mosquitoes.
3. Use Mosquito Repellents - Cleaning your home regularly with cleaning solutions and other repellents helps prevent sea gnats from entering your home. You can also add a drop of lemongrass or lemongrass before cleaning the floor to repel mosquitoes. Sticking to lemons and oranges can help keep flies and mosquitoes out of your home because of the smell. Use insecticide-treated bed nets when you sleep and make sure the windows are sealed so you don't get bitten while you sleep.
4. Avoid Breeding Areas - Colorful areas like stagnant pools are more prone to mosquitoes. Avoid unnecessary accumulation of dirt or debris, such as unwashed dishes or dirty floors.
5. Avoid Odors That Attract Flies - Avoid using scented perfumes and shower gels frequently to get rid of fleas.
6. Important Tests for Dengue Fever - Various tests can be done on the patient to diagnose dengue fever. Complete blood count, CBC, NS1 marine antigen, and Dengue IgM are common tests for Dengue. A marked decrease in the number of platelets and hemoconcentration is an early manifestation of dengue fever. Therefore, regular monitoring of the patient is necessary.
Dr. Mahanti Sreenu, Associate Professor, Department of General Medicine, GIMSR, Visakhapatnam, said, -Sea fever is more common during the rainy season due to the increased number of mosquitoes in wet areas. Mild cases of dengue fever can be treated symptomatically with proper hydration, rest, and nutrition. If there are warning signs such as vomiting, skin rash, and another bleeding, it is important to diagnose and consult a doctor in time.
For any disease, prevention is better than cure, so he recommends some preventive measures and measures in case of sea fever:
1. Keep your home and surroundings clean and dry. Do not allow flies to breed. After it rains, drain the standing water on your patio or garden.
2. Place around the water house, wooden containers, pots, air coolers, unused containers, buckets, tires, food containers for stray animals, etc.
3. Close the water container properly. Empty and clean the water container every week.
4. Wear gloves, especially for children.
5. Use mosquito repellants - rolls and sprays. Try to smoke/fog your house if necessary.
6. Use mosquito nets for doors, windows, and mosquito nets when you sleep.
Stressing that there is no specific treatment for bloating or severe seasickness, Dr. Aviral Roy, consultant intensivist, internal medicine and critical care at Medica Superspeciality Hospital, said that medical attention is needed as soon as the diagnosis is made and advises:
1. It is very good to prevent diseases by controlling the mosquito population in the house and environment.
2. Wear full body clothing to prevent mosquito bites.
3. There should not be water that condenses near the house because it is a place for mosquitoes. There should be no water left in tires, pots, vases, containers, or drums.
4. Install mosquito nets on all windows
5. Mosquito repellent before leaving home.
6. Close doors and windows before dusk, because mosquitoes are active at night.
7. Make sure there is no dust near the house and that the local fish population is healthy.
8. Eat a balanced diet to boost immunity during pregnancy. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and pulses should be included in your diet. Limit your intake of junk, fat, canned, and processed foods that can lower your resistance to illness or disease.
